Inverewe Garden

On the same latitude as Moscow and Hudson’s Bay, but these gardens are bathed in Gulf Stream warmth..

I like close-ups but I’m not skilled at getting it all in focus; soft focus I call it!

Blooms and a bee; there is no best time of year to visit, but June was a pretty good time..

Tantalising glimpses of Loch Ewe through the flax

Deep Loch Ewe with its narrow entrance was ideal for the WWII Russian Convoy activities, but that’s for another blog.

Pretty glimpses towards the heavily wooded headland

Inverewe House was built in the 1937 after the original burned down in 1914 while the Mackenzie family were at the funeral of a young sailor who suffered an accident on a battle ship in the Loch.

The ground floor was open to the public on this rare occasion and was a window into the comfy way of life of Osgood Mackenzie’s daughter Mairi. The desk is exactly the same as my maternal great grandfather’s, which I have inherited and now use in my study in Dorset.

Numerous pretty ponds dotted the grounds of which this is just one

And the team enjoyed the experience, despite the heat

The south west facing walled garden soaks up every bit of sunshine and the variety of leaf colour and shapes of the trees in the picture above was stunning.

Pip played hide and seek just before we left.
